There has been a university on the banks of the River Cam for over 800 years, making the 31 colleges that makeup Cambridge University the oldest (and arguably) most famous in the world. That venerable collection of colleges and its students deliver up 20% of the total population, making this small Southern Eastern city of 120,000 an academic heavyweight.
